Embracing Every Curve: Body Inclusivity in Vanlife

Welcome to the nomadic world of vanlife, where the open road becomes your canvas, and the adventures are as diverse as the landscapes you encounter. As a vanlifer who spent over two years living on the road, I can attest that it was the most liberating decision I ever made for myself. Yet, in the picturesque world of vanlife and the ski community, my plus-sized identity often felt underrepresented.

Living on the road with my best friend, also plus-sized, was a transformative experience. We navigated the twists and turns of the highways, conquering challenges, embracing the unknown, and discovering the incredible beauty that exists beyond societal expectations. Vanlife allowed us to redefine our narrative, transcending the limitations imposed by conventional norms.

As passionate skiers, we soon realized that the ski community was another realm where our body types weren't adequately represented. However, rather than letting this deter us, we saw it as an opportunity to be advocates for individuals like us—those who feel excluded from spaces they love. Our winters were spent hopping from one ski resort to another, proving that the mountains are for everybody and every BODY, regardless of size or shape.

The lack of representation in the outdoor and vanlife communities can be daunting, but it's also a chance to challenge stereotypes and inspire others. Our journey was not just about living in a van; it was a mission to break barriers and show that adventure knows no size. Vanlife became our platform to encourage those in bigger bodies to step outside, move their bodies, and embrace a life filled with exploration and joy.

Our mission as advocates goes beyond the confines of vanlife and skiing. It extends to anyone who feels marginalized in the outdoor community. We want to amplify the voices of those who have been made to believe that certain spaces are off-limits. Through our experiences, we hope to inspire a wave of change that makes outdoor spaces more welcoming for everyone.

As we continue our vanlife journey, we carry with us the belief that the road belongs to all of us. Our plus-sized bodies have become a testament to the resilience and strength that exists within every individual, regardless of their size. The invitation to vanlife isn't exclusive; it's an open call for everyone to break free from societal norms, move beyond their comfort zones, and create a life that resonates with their true selves.

So, to those who have ever doubted if vanlife is for them, I say, let every curve of your body be a celebration of the unique journey you're on. The road is waiting, and it's time to embark on an adventure that reflects the beauty of diversity. Vanlife is not just a lifestyle; it's an opportunity to redefine what's possible and inspire others to join the movement. After all, the most incredible stories are written by those who dare to defy expectations.

Jessie
