Organic Farm Home Stay, Wintertime in Maine
As I talked a little bit about in my previous video, I seem to film things all the time, but some how never get to sharing it. This trip was really special to me. My best friend and I had a "friend-cation" last February to her new home of Portland, Maine.
We found this quaint farmhouse on AirBNB and thought it'd be fun to spend an evening, phone-less, T.V.-less, and experience life on a farm. The family we stayed with cooked us an incredible "from-scratch" dinner, including their farm-fresh cheeses for which they make their living, soup, salad, roast chicken and so many sides I can't even count.
Our home for the evening was a farm house that the family uses in the summer for apprentices to come and learn. The cabin was not heated, and the temperatures were in the teens for most of the night, but they fixed us up with lots and lots of blankets to keep warm, hot water bottles, and tea to keep us cozy.
Though we were in for a night of frequent potty adventures to the outhouse, and paralysis from the weight of the heavy woolen blankets, we were awakened by the beautiful morning sun, the silence of the snow and the quiet bleats of their cheese goats and sheep.
After yet another delicious meal of home baked goodies and french press, we helped the farmers tend to their livestock and went on a morning snow walk with the family dog.
The overall experience was refreshing and revitalizing - driving home from our little getaway, I couldn't help but feel reentered.
